COLORADO SPRINGS — The nephew of a slain Colorado Springs police officer is rebuilding his patch collection from scratch after it was destroyed, along with his home, during the recent Black Forest Fire.
Officer Jared Jensen’s nephew began collecting patches after his uncle was killed in the line of duty.
The boy’s father — a Lieutenant with Colorado Springs PD — brought him to the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington D.C. to remember his uncle.
The boy — then eight years old — met officers from all over the country who gave him patches from their departments.
Officer Jared Jensen was killed by a fugitive who shot the officer and then fled to a campground where he was later caught.
Colorado Springs PD is leading efforts to help Jensen’s nephew restore his collection.
They are seeking donations of patches from other departments, which can be sent to the attention of:
