PORTLAND, Ore. — An Oregon woman is calling a deputy a hero after he saved her life as she was choking on a potato chip.

KOIN reports that Deputy Gregg Ramseyer was at a deli last month to request surveillance footage of a hit-and-run crash when an employee, Angelica Sandoval, started choking. Ramseyer radioed for paramedics as another employee tried to help Sandoval.

But when he saw Sandoval turning blue, the deputy took over and managed to dislodge the potato chip from her throat.

“He saved me,” Sandoval said. “It’s a miracle he was there.”

Ramseyer and the deli employee were commended for their life-saving actions. Sandoval caught up with the deputy a few weeks later to thank him.

“That’s when I told him ‘thank you so much for saving my life, you’re my hero’ and he’s like ‘no problem,’” Sandoval said. “He saved my life and he gave my kids and my husband more life with me, you know.”
