CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A trio of officers in North Carolina are being commended for honoring a torn American flag they found at a car wreck.
According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, the officers were responding to a crash involving an SUV Wednesday night. After the driver of the SUV was taken to a hospital, the officers noticed the flag caught in the front grill of the vehicle.
Officers James Spottswood, Raphael Torres and Patrick Moore “carefully removed the flag before ceremoniously folding the tattered flag to be destroyed in a dignified way,” the agency wrote.
Officer Spottswood, an Army Reservist and former Ranger, led the efforts, police said.
