ARANSAS PASS, Texas — Police have released body camera footage of an officer’s heroic rescue of a dog trapped in a harbor.
KRIS-TV reports Officer Nick Harwood of the Aransas Pass Police Department had stopped to pet a group of stray dogs one night in April.
When he returned to the scene hours later, he witnessed one of the strays pacing back and forth, attempting to help a dog trapped in the water below.
The officer called for backup and jumped into the water. The video begins after the second officer arrives at the scene.
Thanks to the two officers, the dog was safely recovered from the water.
Chief Eric Blanchard told KRIS-TV that he released the video to show the good their department does.
“These guys do a lot of good in the community every day and it’s very infrequent that people outside the department ever hear about it,” Blanchard said.
