The Anaheim Police Department has gone retro.
In honor of the city’s 150th anniversary — and a throwback to those wild-west days — officers can purchase a badge in the shape of a six-point star to wear for the rest of the year.
Each badge, made out of nickel, costs $60 and must be paid for by the wearer.
They’re fashioned after the one worn by Marshall Louis Wartenberg, who was Anaheim’s top officer in the late 1870s, said Sgt. Rick Martinez, who serves as the department’s historian.
The new badges also feature the city seal and each officer’s official number. Badges bought by retired officers and department personnel cannot be worn.
Great American Race to again finish in Anaheim
The Great American Race 2007 will again cross the finish line on the streets on Anaheim.
As an official Anaheim 150 event, the cross-country rally race for classic cars, hot rods and muscle cars will return to Anaheim to help celebrate the city’s sesquicentennial.
The race will begin June 30, 2007 in Concord, N.C., and will finish two weeks later on July 14 in Anaheim.
The competition is not new to Anaheim as downtown was the site of the finish line in 1999 and 2002. Anaheim also served as the race’s starting point in 1986, 1987 and 1988.
