Video: Angry woman assaults cops with TASER, pepper spray

Police were responding to a call of children smoking marijuana in a car when neighbors interfered

DETROIT — Footage shows a woman attacking police officers who were responding to a call.

Officers received a report of children smoking marijuana in a car Wednesday when nearby bystanders became aggressive and interfered, Click On Detroit reported.

Police said the residents weren’t just recording with their phones, but got too close to the traffic stop. An officer told a man to get the cellphone out of his face when things escalated. Residents alleged that police were using “excessive force” on the man so the woman used a TASER and pepper spray to “save his life.”

In a statement released on the department’s Facebook page, police said the video refutes the woman’s claims that officers were using excessive force when she assaulted them with the TASER.

“We are a constitutional policing agency and will continue to strive to maintain a respectful and honest relationship with our community; and we only ask the same in return,” the post read.

Cmdr. Whitney Walton said the bystanders were told to stay on the porch, but came running at the officers.

“They can record,” Walton said. “They can observe, just don’t interfere.”

The man who was told the remove his phone from the officer’s face and the woman who TASERed the officers were arrested. The children in the car were ticketed and released.
