NEW YORK — Fake ads for NYPD drones were plastered around the city the day after the Occupy Wall Street protesters “celebrated” the first anniversary of the movement.

“NYPD Drones. Protection when you least expect it,” said the posters, which bore fake NYPD insignia and depicted the launch of a missile onto a group of fleeing people.

Police have made no arrests in connection to the prank, but are seeking an art school grad from Maine who claimed credit in a recent interview by a local blog.

A few New Yorkers told The New York Post that at first glance, the posters looked real. But a few errors, like the misspelling of “watching,” would clue in an astute reader.

“I can tell you they didn’t pay for the space,” NYPD spokesman Paul Browne joked.
