Homeland Security officials said Tuesday that a man believed to be from a Middle Eastern country was smuggled into the United States somewhere near San Diego County.
Authorities believe the man came into the country sometime Monday or Tuesday and is thought to be heading north toward Sacramento.
According to Immigration Customs Enforcement, the man came into the county somewhere along the eastern San Diego County border between Jacumba and Tecate. Officials have issued a statewide bulletin for California Highway Patrol officers, asking them to be vigilant in their efforts to locate the man, especially along the Interstate-5 corridor.
Be on the lookout for a 2000 dark blue or green Ford F-150 with a California license plate: 6G89575 or 6R08609.
Homeland Security officials said Tuesday that they have intelligence that the man paid higher than normal smuggling fees, which is another reason for concern. They are stressing, however, that they have yet to obtain information linking the immigrant to any terrorist activities.
