Gary Klugiewicz, the Corrections1 Training Network director of training, likes to refer to quickly disengaging from a danger situation as learning how to “get out of dodge.” The Sweep and Disengage tactic was first introduced in the Calibre Press “Surviving Edged Weapons” training video. This concept allows officers to quickly sweep an assailant’s arm away from the officer while the officer decides to keep disengaging or escalating to physical control tactics.
