MIAMI — On Thursday, Miami City commissioners unanimously granted their approval to a resolution authorizing the city manager to enter into an agreement with a private company for overseeing the off-duty employment of city police officers, NBC South Florida reports.

The city is entering an agreement with RollKall Technologies. The company offers both software and a mobile app that can efficiently handle various tasks, such as scheduling work assignments, tracking the real-time locations of off-duty officers via GPS and managing their compensation. Additionally, the system generates federal tax records that detail the annual earnings of each officer.

Miami Police Chief Manuel Morales and the city manager wanted to hire RollKall to help keep officers from working more than the allowed 16 hours a day.

“A tired officer is an officer who’s not at peak performance and our jobs are extremely serious, so we’re dealing with the lives of folks and being able to maintain public safety is difficult,” Morales said during Thursday’s meeting.

RollKall will collect a fee of 6% to 8% from employers, who will continue to compensate officers at their minimum off-duty hourly wage of $50.50, facilitated through RollKall’s platform.
