More dry fire training tips

This is to expand on the tip submitted by Officer Jason Jacobson, Los Angeles (CA) PD in the 2-15-2006 Police1 newsletter related to dry fire training (Read the tip: Secure login required):

I recommend that our agents use their reflection in the bedroom mirror as the target. In this manner the agent develops reactionary skills to a threatening movement as well as target acquisition. Using empty magazines to perform reloads develops muscle memory and improves their reload technique. Though the slide is not locked back, you can depress the slide release simulating the emergency reload drill.

With the Glock this will teach the agent not to sling shot the slide causing them to eject a round when the ramming of a full magazine causes the slide to automatically go forward.

The key to this drill is the repetitive drawing and coming up on target and focusing on the front sight. A couple times a week for 5 minutes is all it takes.

CAUTION BEFORE STARTING: Drop the magazine from your weapon and perform proper clearing procedures. Physically and visually inspect your weapon to fully ensure that it is empty.
