Do not let someone else’s bad tactics dictate your tactics.
I’ll use responding to a burglar alarm--which is a call answered by law enforcement a thousand times a day--as an example.
What I have seen in my 20 plus years in this business is seasoned officers taking this time to smoke or just ramble through the building and even call off their backup if it’s an alarm that often goes off.
I tell new officers, “Do not let someone else’s bad tactics dictate how you handle alarm calls or any other high-risk call.”
We as veteran officers need to watch what we do because we are teaching the future
