Apart from regular refresher courses on advance driver training, it should be a departmental requirement for officers to undergo annual eye tests, with a specific focus on night driving. We only have two eyes and many of us take them for granted, until it has become too late.
Motor vehicle lamps have improved much with all the technological advances of recent years, making them more powerful, but also might have increased the damage it may cause to the eyes of oncoming drivers. Weak eyesight may result in a loss of life during any circumstances of duty and should not be limited to driving conditions alone.
