Escorting a prisoner outside of a secured correctional facility is always a potentially dangerous assignment. An inmate’s need to use toilet facilities during prisoner escorts/transportation needs to be preplanned and properly executed to prevent possible escape attempts and injuries to officers, other professionals and the public. The use of existing handcuffs, belly chains and leg irons in innovative ways can be used to minimize the risk of an escape attempt while allowing the inmate to use the facilities.
