GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas — A Grand Prairie officer is being hailed as a hero after saving a child who was choking Friday night, CBSDFW reports.

Officer AJ Castaneda was at the Mid-Autumn Festival at Asia Times Square in Dallas on Friday when he saw a woman running with a baby in her arms.

“The child was just lifeless,” Castaneda said. “The arms and legs were just dangling there as she ran towards me.”

The woman, whom Castaneda said was Nigerian, did not speak English, but Castaneda immediately began to help. He gave the one-year-old boy back blows until the child spit out an object and began to breathe.

Reports of the heroic moment have garnered an abundance of praise for Castaneda.

“The outpouring has been really great,” Castaneda told CBSDFW. But, he maintained, “I’m just doing my job.”
