KISSIMMEE, Fla. — A local Florida police department welcomed its newest member of the force as a ‘special policeman’.

Fox News reports that 6-year-old Enzo Russell vowed to do his best as he was sworn in as an honorary police officer for the Kissimmee PD on his birthday. The young boy swore to uphold the legacy of his uncle, Sgt. Sam Howard, who was killed in the line of duty last year.

“I Enzo, being a special policeman, promise that I’ll be a good boy, that I will always love my parents,” Russell repeated after Kissimmee Police Chief Jeff O’Dell during an informal swearing-in ceremony. “I will always love other policeman. I will always do my best. I will always have my badge with me.”

Howard, a 10-year veteran of the Kissimmee PD, was killed along with Officer Matthew Baxter while responding to a call about three suspicious people. Howard died the day after the shooting, according to the Orlando Sentinel.
