  • Jeff Paynter is a detective with the Lakewood (Wash.) Police Department. He is currently assigned full time to the Washington Basic Law Enforcement Academy as the Defensive Tactics Coordinator. Detective Paynter became a student of Kali and JKD under Sifu Christopher Clarke in 1999. He has been a law enforcement officer for nineteen years, and began training under Robert Bragg at the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Center in 2001. He has been a Control/Defensive Tactics Master Instructor since 2004, and is an LVNR Instructor (ACCT), certified through the National Law Enforcement Training Center in Kansas City.

  • Jessica Dipre is a member of Dinsmore & Shohl’s Litigation Department. Her practice focuses on representing municipalities and individual police officers in Section 1983 actions. Specifically, Jessica has successfully defended municipalities and officers in numerous use of force cases, including actions involving police pursuits, fatal shootings, Tasers, alleged unlawful entries, alleged unlawful arrests, falsification of evidence, and interference with familial relations. Jessica has also provided Fourth Amendment training to several local police departments and SWAT. In addition, Jessica is a frequent speaker at legal seminars. Jessica also represents both public and private companies in a wide range of complex commercial litigation, including banking law, workers’ compensation, Intentional Tort, and Labor and Employment matters. Jessica has trial experience in both State and Federal Court and has argued before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, the Ohio First District Court of Appeals and the Ohio Twelfth District Court of Appeals.

  • After graduating from the University of Pittsburgh, Jim Guffey began his Law Enforcement career in 1977 with the Pennsylvania Capitol Police. In 1980 was hired by the Ross Township Police Department. He remained there until January 1, 2002. During that time he worked as a plain-clothes detective, on the traffic division, and was promoted on 1996 to Lieutenant. He remained the Administrative Lieutenant until his retirement. Not satisfied with retirement, he became the Chief of Police in Blairsville Borough in August 2003 and remained there until July 2004.

    Joe LeFevre Ph.D. is the coordinator for forensic science training and police recruit fitness at Fox Valley Technical College’s Public Safety Training Center. Before teaching LeFevre was an officer with the City of Platteville, WI police department. LeFevre’s time with the PLPD included assignments as field training officer, evidence technician, and front line supervisor. He currently holds fitness training certifications from The Cooper Institute, FitForce, and Dragon Door.

  • John F. Hein is an adjunct instructor of criminal justice for the American Public University System and a retired executive of the former U.S. Customs Service. Hein served 35 years in civilian and military security and law enforcement agencies. Hein supported, supervised or conducted employee internal investigations for the U.S. Department of Transportation, Office of Inspector General, then for the former U.S. Customs Service, Office of Internal Affairs, and, as a reservist, the U.S. Air Force Office of Special Investigations.   • John Johnson is a Sergeant with the Suffolk County Police Department in New York. John’s law enforcement career started in 1988 as a patrol officer. In 1993 he was assigned to the Community relations Section as a D.A.R.E. officer. In 1999 John was promoted to the rank of Detective and assigned to the Identification Section. After 4 years John was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and assigned patrol.
