Texas Police Station Evacuated After Bomb Found in Bag

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (AP) -- The police station was evacuated for nearly three hours after an employee found a pipe bomb in the belongings of a man who killed two people and himself two weeks ago.

Sgt. Cindy Walker said she did not know how long Damir Beganovic’s bag containing the explosive device had been in the Wichita Falls Police Department.

Beganovic, 24, fatally shot his estranged wife, Tamatha, 28, and her friend Donald Norris, 30, on July 31. Before killing himself, he also shot Norris’ 5-year-old son, Joseph “Drake” Norris, who remains hospitalized.

After a police employee found the device Thursday morning, a bomb squad arrived from Fort Sill, Okla., and deactivated the bomb, which was filled with powder and had a fuse, Walker said.

Last week, Air Force Office of Special Investigations agents found an explosive device in Damir Beganovic’s Tucson, Ariz., apartment. Three buildings were evacuated while Tucson police took it apart.

Beganovic was stationed at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Arizona but lived off the base. He arrived there in January after graduating from Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls.
