Alert Ariz. Police Nab Suspect Impersonating Officer

GLENDALE, Ariz. – Glendale Police arrested a suspect Wednesday afternoon, after he impersonated a police officer by conducting a traffic stop on an 18-year-old woman in the area of 59 th Avenue and W. Olive.

Shortly before 11:30 Wednesday morning, Officer Bill Scheckel responded to a suspicious vehicle call in the 6000 block of Glendale Avenue. Officer Scheckel approached a man sitting in a 1994 silver Cadillac with two broken windows. The man said that he was at the location to get his windows replaced after they were broken out sometime during the night.

A police report was then taken and the man left the area.

Wednesday afternoon Officer Bill Scheckel responded to a call that an 18-year-old high school student had been pulled over by a man at 59th Avenue and Olive in a silver Cadillac with broken windows. According to the victim, a red emergency light on the dashboard of the suspect vehicle was used to get the victim to pull over. The suspect asked the driver a few questions and began acting suspicious. The suspect then reached out and grabbed the victim inappropriately in the chest area. The victim then left the area when the suspect failed to show a police badge. With the suspect vehicle description fitting the same as Scheckel previous contact earlier, patrol officers then responded to the suspect’s apartment where he was apprehended.

The victim was able to identify the suspect and he was placed under arrest.

Butch Ephrim of Glendale was booked for impersonating a police officer, sex abuse and has a warrant out of California.
