MESA, Ariz. (AP) - A local police officer is being honored Wednesday in New York City as one of the country’s top cops.
Brad Withrow, 42, was named Arizona’s top cop by the National Association of Police Organizations and also received an honorable mention for the nation.
Withrow was nominated by Mesa Sgt. Bill Peters for his work on the city’s DUI squad for the past two years - he issued 467 DUI citations in 2001.
“I push myself as hard as I can to get these people, and still there are collisions,” Withrow said. “When you are driving impaired, you are infringing on others’ rights, and you are taking a chance every time you get in the car.”
The annual award recognizes the nation’s top 50 police officers or departments for actions above and beyond the call of duty.
