SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) -- An officer attacked by his own police dog is returning to work after a three-month leave to recover from serious wounds.
Johnny Quijas returns to the force this week, police spokesman Mario Corona said.
Quijas suffered torn ligaments and other wounds to his arms and hands when the dog lunged at him at a training facility, Corona said.
The dog, which had been with the department about a week, was returned to the seller.
On Friday, Quijas will introduce his new dog, Ygor, to students at Edison Elementary School in Santa Ana. The dog, a 4-year-old Belgian malinois, is the only one-eyed police dog in Orange County, police said in a statement.
