CINCINNATI -- A local officer who became part of the accident scene he was investigating spoke out Friday, a day after the collision.
Cincinnati police Officer Jerry Enneking said Friday he’s thankful that the Thanksgiving Day accident wasn’t worse.
The 15-year veteran was responding to a call about an accident on the Interstate 75 ramp onto Interstate 74 Thursday when he was struck, not by one, but two cars.
The dramatic scene was captured on his police cruiser’s dashboard camera.
“Looking at it, I’m just lucky,” Enneking said. “I mean, a second sooner or later, it would have been a lot worse. It just shows you how fast things can turn.”
As Enneking was approaching the accident scene, he was hit by a car, Hamrick reported. Then, when he got out of his police cruiser, another oncoming car hit him. He spent Friday walking slowly because of ankle and knee injuries.
“It was like a blindside tackle,” Enneking said. “One minute, I’m there, and the next, I’m landing on the ground.”
Enneking said that time seemed to stop when he was hit, Hamrick reported.
“After looking at the tape, it looks like I got hit pretty good,” he said. “Everything was in real time until i got struck. Then it was slow motion when all of it was happening.”
