South Windsor, Conn. (AP)-- A 17-year-old boy who collapsed while playing soccer Monday was revived by police using a portable defibrillator.
The boy suffered a seizure while playing with a group of friends. Three friends ran to police headquarters across the street from the Nevers Road soccer fields to report the medical emergency, said Sgt. Richard A. Riggs.
Sgt. E. Thomas Field drove across the soccer grounds to the victim and found he had no pulse. Field and others began resuscitation efforts until two more police officer arrived at the scene with the automated external defibrillator.
After applying a single shock, the boy’s heart began beating and he began breathing on his own, Riggs said.
The boy, whose name was not released, was taken to the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center in Hartford where he was reported to be in good condition Tuesday, police said.
