FBI Said Credential Theft Not Security Breach

HOUSTON -- An FBI agent in town for Super Bowl security became a crime victim when his pickup truck was stolen with his credentials and gun inside, News2Houston reported in an exclusive story Wednesday.
The agent had just checked into Holiday Inn, 7787 Katy Freeway at Silber, when his truck was stolen from the parking lot around 6:30 p.m. Saturday. He was carrying baggage to his room, and when he returned to the parking lot, the truck was gone.
“Every 2.1 seconds, we have a vehicle stolen, and it certainly was 2.1 seconds before he got back to the vehicle to continue the unloading process when the vehicle was stolen,” said Bob Doguim, with the Houston office of the FBI.
The stolen vehicle was found about six hours later in the 7400 block of Fir in southeast Houston. Most of the items inside were gone, including the agent’s 9mm Glock, FBI credentials, Hazmat suit and helmet
FBI officials said the theft is not a breach in Super Bowl security.
"(There was) no kind of credentials that offer access into anything with regards to the Super Bowl,” Doguim said.
The FBI’s primary concern is the missing weapon.
“Certainly, there’s more focus on the situation, especially when you have the Super Bowl right around the corner,” Doguim said.
Houston police said they are questioning a man in connection with the theft, but did not call him a suspect.
The agent is with the FBI’s Hazmat team from San Antonio.
