PINE LAKE, Ga.- Police surrounded a post office in suburban Atlanta on Thursday after a man fatally shot a police officer and ran inside.
At least a dozen squad cars could be seen from television helicopter footage outside the building. Police were unsure if the gunman was still inside the post office after the late afternoon shooting.
Susan Boozer, who witnessed the shooting as she pulled up to the building to check her post office box, said she saw blue lights and “thought it was just somebody getting stopped for a speeding ticket.”
She said she saw two officers near a blue sport utility vehicle, one with his gun drawn. The suspect had his arm around one officer saying “‘Go on and shoot. Go on and shoot.’”
The man shot at the officer who was pointing the gun at him, then shot the officer he was holding, she said.
