WIXOM, Mich. — Michigan authorities say more than 20 random shootings mostly targeting passing cars have now been reported in a four-county region.
No one’s been hurt, and no shootings have occurred since Thursday. But authorities raised the number to 22 on Monday after getting more reports from police in southeastern Michigan.
The incidents appear to be random, but police are investigating them as a pack.
The shootings mostly involve cars near Interstate 96, though authorities have said one occurred while a man was taking out his garbage. In another, a woman said her car’s rear window was shattered.
As a precaution Monday, five schools in the town of Wixom kept students inside at recess.
Tipsters are telling police the gunman appears to be in his 30s with close-cropped hair and cheek stubble.
