‘Officer Down’ Call Prompts Swift Response; Deputy, Suspect Injured In Scuffle

ABC-7 News Denver

ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. -- An Adams County deputy and a suspect were injured Tuesday afternoon in Adams County, but their injuries weren’t believed to be life threatening.

The incident began at about 4:20 p.m. when two deputies were sent to an apartment building in the area of 52nd Avenue and Pecos Street to investigate a possible burglary in progress. The officers entered an apartment and arrested a suspect.

A third deputy placed the handcuffed suspect in his patrol car to take him to jail, but the suspect was able to get out of his handcuffs and the two got into a scuffle that ended up outside the vehicle.

The officer’s service revolver was dislodged and at least one shot ws fired, but neither the suspect nor the deputy was hit.

A radio report of “officer down” brought a swift response by other deputies. That radio call means an officer has been injured and requires assistance.

The deputy and suspect could be seen lying on the ground next to the road at 4:50 p.m. They were transported to St. Anthony’s Hospital for treatment.
