DELTA TOWNSHIP, Mich. - A man suspected of fatally shooting two women was in critical condition Monday after he took a restaurant waitress hostage and police shot him in the chest.

The suspect took the waitress hostage Sunday in a restaurant about 10 miles west of Lansing after police confronted him and an accomplice. She was shot in the leg and her injuries were not life-threatening, police said.

Police said they were investigating, including trying to determine who shot the waitress.

The two men are suspected of killing Elizabeth Lowe, 24, and Brandy Lowe, 21. The women, who were cousins to each other, were found shot in a Lansing park on Oct. 10 and later died in a hospital.

State police pulled over the men’s vehicle and one of them jumped out and ran into a Red Robin restaurant, police said. Witnesses then heard six gun shots.

The man took the waitress hostage and exited the back of the building with her but ran into police, who shot him at least once in the chest, said Sheriff Rick Jones.

The second suspect surrendered to police, and two women in the vehicle with the suspects were held for questioning.
