Stabbing Victim Says Okla. Police Saved Her Life

Pam Hobby credits a Tulsa Police officer’s split second decision with saving her life.

KOTV News (Tulsa, Okla.)

Pam Hobby was with her boyfriend of two years late Tuesday night and admits they were drinking when he flew into a rage while they were walking along the 11th Street Bridge.

She says he first threatened to throw off the bridge, then started hitting her before pulling out a knife. She has puncture wounds on her chest and stitches in her arm in addition to bruises and scrapes all over her body. She says she believes he would have killed her, had the officer not shown up and fired a shot.

The officer says when he arrived to the scene, he saw 46-year old Darrel Shaw stabbing Hobbey repeatedly. The officer says Shaw refused to drop the knife, so the officer fired one time. Shaw was killed.

She would like to meet that officer and tell him something. “Thank you, thank you very much. I think he should get a commendation. I can honestly say I’ve never had much good feelings about police. That’s the truth, a few friends, but, my Mom always said one day you’re going to need them and Wow.”

Pam says she is very sad about her boyfriend’s death, because she hoped one day they’d get married, but says the officer had no choice.

She is also very thankful to the person who drove by and saw her struggling and called 911. She believes that person and the officer were angels sent to rescue her.

Hobbey is out of the hospital. The police officer is on routine administrative leave until an investigation into the shooting is complete
