Suit against officer dismissed
[PITTSBURGH]

March 15, 2001
(PITTSBURGH) – A judge has thrown out a lawsuit brought by the family of a man shot and killed by a Pittsburgh police officer who was being dragged by the dead man’s car.

Officer John Wilbur had already been cleared of any criminal wrongdoing. On Tuesday, a federal judge dismissed a suit by the parents of Craig Guest, saying the evidence shows that Wilbur’s actions were “objectively reasonable.”

Guest was at the wheel of a stolen car in 1996 when Wilbur shot him. The police officer said that a finger became caught in the car’s rear door as Guest took off at more than 70 miles an hour. A passenger was also killed.

Wilbur was dragged for about a mile. Lawyers for the parents argued that he fired before he was dragged.
