Suspected bank robber tries to eat note, bites officer in Michigan
FORT WAYNE, Ind. — A Fort Wayne man has been formally charged with battery after police said he bit an officer’s finger and had to be struck several times before letting go.
Chad Redden, 35, of the 2100 block of Cass Street, was initially arrested April 14 after officers responded to a domestic problem at 4:35 a.m., court documents said.
When officers arrived, they found Redden sitting in front of a home talking loudly and “crazy,” police said.
Officers smelled alcohol on Redden’s breath and when they offered him a ride, he started stomping around and yelling at them, police said.
When an officer told Redden he was under arrest for public intoxication and tried to handcuff him, Redden began struggling and pulling away, police said.
After finally getting Redden handcuffed, the officer took him to the hospital where he continued yelling and started spitting, police said.
When another officer tried to put a sheet over Redden to stop him from spitting, Redden turned his head and bit down on the officer’s finger and refused to let go until he had been struck several times, police said.
Because the officer was wearing leather gloves, Redden’s bite failed to break the skin, the court documents said.
On Thursday, Redden was booked into the Allen County Lockup on charges of battery, resisting law enforcement, public intoxication and disorderly conduct. He was released on a $3,250 bond.
Self-proclaimed drug ‘mule’ accused of Parkview car theft
A woman drove her Saturn to the valet services at Parkview Hospital on Feb. 8 and was approached by a man who identified himself as a valet. When the woman later returned to the front of the hospital to get her car, she was told that the Saturn had been stolen, court documents said.
Christopher J. Dirig, 25, of the 8100 block of Bridgeway Circle, was formally charged with auto theft Friday.
According to court documents, the woman told police she asked Dirig whether he was the valet and when he said he was, she asked him to get her wheelchair out of the Saturn’s trunk and he then pushed her into the hospital. She told police she tipped him a dollar.
One of the hospital’s valet employees said Dirig had approached him shortly before the woman drove up and asked how the valet service worked, police said.
Soon after, the valet employee told police, he saw Dirig pushing the woman into the hospital, police said. After the employee had given the woman her claim ticket, he returned to the front of the hospital to find the Saturn missing, police said.
The employee notified Parkview security immediately and they told police that Dirig had been a patient in the hospital’s emergency room overnight and was seen hanging out in the lobby area early that morning, police said.
The Saturn was found abandoned later that day, police said.
In an interview with police, Dirig said he runs a drug operation with another man and described himself as a “mule,” police said.
Dirig told officers that the other man picked him up at the hospital and urged him to take the Saturn, court documents said.
Dirig was taken to the Allen County Lockup where he was being held in lieu of $10,000 bail.
