(OXNARD, Calif.) -- A SWAT team member shot and killed a gunman last week after he took a girl hostage on a high school campus.
Neither the girl nor any or the other 2,500 students at Hueneme High School were hurt in the Jan. 10 incident.
At 12:52 p.m. police got a 911 call that the man was holding a gun to the girl’s head. The names of the girl and the gunman have not been release.
As terrified students fled the campus the SWAT team moved in and by 12:57 p.m. the gunman was dead.
“I seen a guy, he had a gun and he was holding the gun to this chick’s head,” student Michael Garcia told the Associated Press. He said the man waved a gun at students and said: “Back away, back away.”
Tenth-grader Devon Bishop told the press service that the man had his arm around the girl’s head with the gun at her neck, and the girl was scared and crying.
“I ran. I just got my backpack and ran. It wasn’t cool at all,” Bishop told the AP.
