PORTLAND, Ore. — Two men have been charged with shoplifting at a Portland store, losing their gamble that the 60 police officers helping kids in the annual “Shop with a Cop” back-to-school event would be too distracted to notice, The Oregonian reports.
Police allege that Shane Alexander, 20, and Jason Vantress, 30, were loading up their backpacks with shoes, clothes and tools while officers were helping out about 160 kids.
But store security spotted the pair and alerted police who were, well, right there.
