Pittsburgh police say someone stole a stolen truck

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Someone stole a pickup truck from a city police garage used to store stolen vehicles.

The 1991 GMC Sierra pickup was originally stolen July 22 from a used car lot in Westmoreland County and was being stored by city police when it was stolen again, police said Tuesday.

The thief used another vehicle to crash into the auto theft squad’s garage and then drove the pickup away.

Whoever stole the pickup had to use hand tools to start it, because its steering column had been broken during the previous theft, police said.

Police said they have some leads, but are puzzled because other items including tools, police radios and laptop computers were not taken from the garage.

“We’re scratching our heads on this one because they could have stolen a lot of stuff out of that garage and didn’t,” police Lt. Dan Herman told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
