CHICAGO — A Kane County Jail inmate has been charged with attempting to hire a hit man to murder the police officer who arrested him.
Charges of solicitation of murder and solicitation of murder for hire have been lodged against Dijon R. Grissette, 35, of Plano.
According to court documents, Grissette, who is awaiting trial on drug charges, reportedly asked a fellow inmate in November to arrange the murder of the Kane County sheriff’s detective who arrested him in 2007.
Grissette was to give the inmate $3,000, and the inmate’s brother was supposed to kill the officer, but jail authorities reportedly became aware of the situation.
“This is more than just somebody popping off in their cell,” State’s Atty. John Barsanti said Monday.
Sheriff Pat Perez said his office would view seriously any threat to any officer.
Court files show that Grissette had also been charged in March with making threatening telephone calls to the same officer. In one of the messages, Grissette, who at that time was free on bond, said he was “going to fill you with lead” to the officer, according to court documents.
