SIOUX CITY, Iowa — The five-day manhunt for the man suspected of shooting a Sioux City officer eight times — including a shot to the head — came to a close Saturday in south Texas, and the suspect is fighting extradition back to Iowa.
Jamal Dean, 21, was arrested and faces charges for the shooting of Officer Kevin McCormick, according to Sioux City Journal.
He was pulled over by Texas State Troopers about 105 miles from the U.S.-Mexico border, leading police to believe he was attempting to flee the country.
Officer McCormick has been released from the hospital, after suffering a bullet wound inches from his eye.
“I don’t really get worked up about talking about it until I start talking about the amount of support we’ve received from the department,” McCormick told ABC 9.
“If you want to work for a police department, I think the Sioux City Police Department is definitely one of the top places to work. I think that the public should definitely feel extremely safe in Sioux City.”
