ZACHARY, La.- Officers from several law enforcement agencies arrested two people and seized about 20 pounds of marijuana following an investigation that ended Tuesday night, Zachary Police Chief Joey Watson said.

Zachary police and other members of the Delta Drug Task Force stopped a car suspected of being used in drug trafficking on Lower Zachary Road shortly after 11:30 p.m. when they saw it did not have a license plate.

One of four occupants in the car ran from the officers, but a police dog handled by an Iberville Parish sheriff’s deputy tracked the suspect, Ray J. Jackson, 24, to the rear of a residence on the street, Watson said.

Police seized a garbage bag containing 6 pounds of marijuana from the car, and Jackson later allowed officers to search his home at 9708 Spike Ridge Drive in Zachary, where officers found 14 more pounds of marijuana, two rifles, two handguns, $1,306 in cash and a large quantity of hydrocodone and Xanax tablets, the police chief said.

Officers booked Jackson at Parish Prison with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, resisting an officer, possession of a firearm while in possession of drugs, possession with intent to distribute Xanax and possession with intent to distribute hydrocodone.

Another occupant of the car, Dwayne H. Flournoy, 17, 21184 Reames Road, Zachary, was booked with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, while the other two men were not arrested, Watson said.
