PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. — Police were called to a Walmart last Tuesday after receiving a call about a suspicious shopper – who was discovered carrying a meth lab in his backpack.
Investigators spoke with Steve McLeroy, 40, then searched his backpack, which contained marijuana and a device used to make methamphetamine, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. A security officer at the store had seen McElroy in the store before, reportedly showing interest in products used to manufacture meth.
Police called the supplies inside the backpack a “mobile meth lab,” and Drug Enforcement Agency technicians stepped in to help destroy the dangerous materials, according to Fox 5.
“The fire danger is immediate, catching yourself on fire, exposing others to the chemicals, rubbing your eyes that sort of the bottles should break or fall on the ground,” Peachtree Police Lt. Mark Brown said.
McLeroy attempted to flee, but was unsuccessful, and he is currently in jail awaiting bond.
