MUSKOGEE, Okla. — Police released video of an officer shooting a knife-wielding man.

About 7:45 a.m. on August 7, a resident flagged down Muskogee police Officer James Moore, 27, telling him a man was acting strangely and may have been armed with a gun near S 33rd Street and Okmulgee Avenue.

In the video, Moore can be seen making contact with Sean Ellis, 44, who police said refused to obey verbal commands. Ellis was walking away from Moore and pulled a large knife from his waistband as the officer followed him.

Ellis eventually stopped and turned toward Moore and the officer continued to issue commands for Ellis to drop his weapon.

Ellis began walking toward Moore, who shot Ellis three times. Ellis was taken to a Tulsa hospital, where he remained Thursday afternoon. Ellis faces a charge of assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer and attempted escape from lawful detention.

Moore was hired by the Muskogee Police Department in July 2015. He remains on paid administrative leave.
