As evidence techs we all know how important it is to take pictures that not only show the crime scene, but show it truly. That’s where color and lighting come into play. I have been using a couple of tools that no ET should be without.
The first is a color checker. The one that I have been using is Spyderchecker, made by a company called Datacolor. For perfect white balance I use the Spydercube. This unit is small enough to put in your crime scene kit. The cube is placed in the area that you want perfect white balance, set your camera for white balance, and shoot the cube. Done! Camera is balanced for the light you are shooting in. No more bluegreen, green, or orange pictures.
