Canada Police, Customs Bust Ecstasy Ring, Seize 260 Kilos

The Associated Press

MONTREAL (CP) -- The RCMP and Canada Customs said Thursday they have made the largest ecstasy seizure in Canadian history.

Agents in Montreal seized 260 kilograms of the powdered recreational drug -- enough to produce 2.6 million individual doses.

The drugs were hidden in a container aboard a vessel that arrived at the Port of Montreal from Belgium in August, authorities said in a statement.

Customs agents confiscated the drugs but allowed the container to make its way to Vancouver over the next several months.

Upon the container’s arrival in Vancouver, Chi Fai Leung, of Burnaby, B.C., was charged with importation and possession, the RCMP said.

The Organized Crime Agency of B.C. and the Canadian Pacific Railway police also took part in the investigation.
