Credit Card Trace Busts Diner in ‘Help Me’ Note Prank

Associated Press

BISMARCK, N.D. - Police in North Dakota aren’t laughing at one guy’s idea of a joke. Employees at Bismarck’s Red Lobster restaurant called 911 after they found a note while clearing a table.

The message on a crumpled napkin read: “Help me. Please call police.”

Officers managed to find the note-writer with a credit-card trace. Lt. Dan Donlin says the man, who hasn’t been named, is from Texas.

Donlin says the guy was very apologetic and never intended for his note to be seen. Police have decided not to charge him.

Still, Donlin says, while it’s OK to have inside jokes, don’t write anything that serious on a napkin.
