COEYMANS, N.Y. — Police are helping out a man after his newly purchased car was seized in connection to a murder case, WNYT reported.
Josh Goetz bought an SUV for $8,000 from a small dealership in March. Later he was told by investigators it was needed as evidence for a murder case.
“This could have happened to anybody. He thought he was buying a car with nothing attached to it and now he’s out the money and the car,” Coeymans Police Department Investigator Jason Albert told WNYT.
Investigators returned the car, but Goetz claims it was ruined. The seats had been removed and the upholstery was tattered, according to the report.
When Goetz asked about reimbursement, officials told him to hire a lawyer, which he couldn’t afford. His car insurance isn’t covering the damage either.
The Town of Coeymans Police Department started a Go-Fund-Me campaign to help with costs for Goetz. So far, only $800 has been raised of the $10K needed for reimbursement.
Investigators are still waiting for results from the DNA taken from the SUV. No suspects have been officially named in the investigation.
