LOS ANGELES, March 2 (UPI) -- Police in Southern California believe they have broken up a ring of burglars targeting high-tech manufacturing companies.
Eight suspects had been arrested as of Wednesday morning as part of the investigation into the ring that allegedly began operating in the greater Los Angeles area in 2002.
The alleged thieves were far from subtle. KNBC-TV, Los Angeles, said they usually backed a truck through a plate glass window or door and loaded up with cartons while the security alarms were ringing.
Investigators say the ring had advance knowledge about the goods inside the targeted businesses and had arrangements made to fence the stolen items quickly.
Police said they had recovered a semi-trailer load of loot, but believe millions of dollars worth of other goods was long gone.
