Utah police arrest 2 in protest shooting investigation

A Monday night shooting injured a 60-year-old man as he tried to drive past a protest

PROVO, Utah – Police say they’ve arrested two people in connection with a shooting that happened Monday evening at a protest in Utah. A man was injured by gunfire as he tried to drive across an intersection.

A video of the incident circulating on social media shows a white SUV pushing through a crowd of protesters, knocking one of them down. At least two apparent gunshots can be heard in the video. Towards the end of the clip, a man is seen pointing an object at the vehicle as it drives away.

Provo police say the gunman shot and hit the driver, a 60-year-old man, reported The Salt Lake Tribune.

The suspected gunman, 33-year-old Jesse Taggart of Salt Lake City, was arrested on a slew of charges related to the incident, including attempted aggravated murder and assault, reported ABC4 News.

Police also arrested 27-year-old Samantha Darling of Ogden City. She’s been charged with obstruction of justice and rioting.

Police haven’t provided an update on the shooting victim, but said Monday that his wounds were not life-threatening.
