COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A 30-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving after she allegedly hit a Colorado State Patrol trooper who was working a traffic stop in Colorado Springs late Wednesday, State Patrol said in a news release.
The trooper was in the patrol car at the time of the crash.
Christine Gallegos, of Colorado Springs, is accused of multiple charges, including her fourth driving under the influence offense, State Patrol said.
A Colorado law that took effect last August makes a fourth DUI a Class 4 felony with up to six years in prison and up to a $500,000 fine.
Just before 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, a trooper was in the middle of a traffic stop at Palmer Park Boulevard and East Buena Ventura Street when the trooper’s vehicle was sideswiped by another vehicle, State Patrol said. The driver did not stop, prompting the trooper to go on a short pursuit of the fleeing vehicle, State Patrol said.
Gallegos was arrested and booked into El Paso County jail, State Patrol said.
Both Gallegos and the trooper were not seriously hurt, State Patrol said.
