MAUI COUNTY, Hawaii – The death of a federal agent last week has been ruled an accidental line of duty death by federal officials, according to Hawaii News Now.
Special Agent John Bost III died July 28 inside a Maui police station from an accidental discharge of a rifle, the Maui Police Department said.
Bost served with the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives for 15 years, according to the Officer Down Memorial Page. He previously served with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department in North Carolina.
“John will be remembered as an outstanding special agent, greatly admired and respected by all who knew him,” said a release from ATF obtained by Hawaii News Now. “He was deeply committed to ATF’s mission of safeguarding our communities from violent criminals, and will be profoundly missed.”
Bost is survived by his parents.
