ST. LOUIS - A St. Louis police officer shot and killed a man who was employed by the St. Louis City Sheriff’s Department.
Police responded to the intersection of Michigan and Dover around 10:30 p.m. Thursday after hearing reports of two men arguing in the street.
St. Louis police said officers arrived to find two men standing in the middle of the street blocking traffic. They approached the men and noticed Timothy Kern had a gun on his hip.
When the officers demanded Kern put his hands in the air, police said he instead reached for his gun and turned toward the officers with the gun. One of the officers fearing for his safety opened fire on Kern. Police say he was hit several times. Kern was taken to the hospital where he later died.
