TUCSON, Ariz. — A Pima County Sheriff’s deputy who was working an off-duty job at the fair was struck in a hit-and-run Tuesday night.

Deputy Jesus Vilvaldo was treated by paramedics and taken to Banner-University Medical Center Tucson with serious, but not life-threatening injuries, said Deputy Ryan Inglett, a sheriff’s spokesman.

The hit-and-run driver, Daniel Doubek, 31, was apprehended and was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, hit-and-run and aggravated assault charges, said Inglett. Doubek was booked into the Pima County jail.

The incident happened at 8 p.m. at the Pima County Fairgrounds, 11300 S. Houghton Road.

Vilvaldo was conducting traffic control at the main entrance to the fairgrounds. He was in the process of removing cones from the road when a car traveling south on Houghton struck him and continued, Inglett said.

Deputies stopped the car and traffic detectives took over the investigation, which resulted in the arrest.
