ORTING, Wash. — An off-duty cop with the Fife police fatally shot a man outside his home Tuesday.
The suspect, a 21-year-old with known mental health issues, called 911 and told dispatchers he planned to kill someone, according to KOMO News.
The suspect then arrived at the officer’s home, which had a marked squad car in the driveway.
The officer repeatedly asked for the man to leave, then called 911, according to the report. Shots were fired and deputies arrived to find the man dead near a rifle.
According to Pierce County Sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer, the suspect fired, causing the officer to return fire and kill the suspect.
The officer was not wounded.
